Katie’s night was done so she decided to take a nap with the equipment after we completed the survey.
Survey season has started! Our first survey was a spotlight survey for deer, not too exciting. We anticipated seeing various wildlife on our routes and Katie’s job is to help us determine what other wildlife are out there in the dark. Katie was very excited to start and even sat up in the front of the truck that first night. It was a long night with nothing to be seen except deer. The next night however, we saw mountain lion eyes. Of course we can’t confirm a sighting with just eyes, so the following afternoon Katie and I went looking for physical evidence (tracks, scat, scratch marks) that a lion was there. We didn’t find any evidence of a mountain lion, but Katie did show me a few piles of coyote scat.
